Our modules and systems are available as kits as well as assembled instruments. Our kits can be successfully assembled by anyone who can solder and who is willing to spend the time to work slowly, accurately and patiently. Many musicians who want a modular synthesizer find it difficult to afford all the modules they want. For those who have the time, assembling a system from kits can result in savings of about 40%. The difference is, of course, instead of being hand built by us, the system is hand built by you.
We have made our instruments even more affordable by choosing to sell them directly from the factory. We have not made the work of Aries subject to dealer markups, so that Aries Music instruments are sold directly to our customers at what would be dealer cost. Dealers buy synthesizers from other manufacturers at approximately 60% of the published list price. If our instruments were distributed through music stores, the Aries Music Synthesizer which now costs $2000 would then list for $3330.
There are, however, 5 dealers of Aries Music systems. Each of them is a qualified professional and an expert synthesist. Our customers can purchase Aries Music instruments from any of these dealers at the same price as from the factory. We maintain these dealerships as a convenience to our customers.
We encourage customers who need assistance to contact us directly. If there is a dealer in your area, we will refer you to him. If not, we can sometimes diagnosee problems and offer solutions over the phone. In all cases, we are prepared to offer all possible assistance in building, repairing and wiring our instruments.
We offer software support for our instruments. We have expanded our Owner's Manual to 143 pages of information, patches, experiments and instruction in the use of the AR-300 Series modules. As we add more modules we add supplements to the manual including information on the new modules. Written by Ken Perrin, our manual is designed to offer basic understanding of and instruction in the use of our instruments.
We have additional manuals planned. One is a series of laboratory experiments in Fourier synthesis for college-level physics instruction. This manual was written by Jerry Lemay and is based on the use of the AR-332 phase-modulated sync VCO's included as part of the Aries Music "Physics" system. Mr. Lemay uses both the manual and the system in classes at Southeastern Massachusetts University. The manual will be available to our customers in the summer of 1979.
In short, Aries Music is dedicated to manufacturing a superior quality instrument and to making it available at a reasonable cost. We offer sufficient instructional materials so that the use of even the most sophisticated systems can be learned by someone just beginning in electronic music. Experience has shown that an Aries Music synthesizer is a viable instrument for stage, studio, instruction and experimental use.
