The
Aries AR-331 is a 4-function module which includes a pre-amplifier, an
envelope generator, a threshold detector and an inverter. The pre-amp
is a 40 dB gain amplifier necessary for interfacing most external signals
to the synthesizer. For convenience, the pre-amp inputs include a mini
jack, an RCA (phono) jack and a 1/4-inch (phone) jack. The pre-amp gain
is manually controlled from the front panel.
The envelope follower produces a DC voltage proportional to the average
amplitude of an audio input signal. In other words, this function can
derive an envelope from an external signal.
The threshold detector is a comparator circuit with a manually-controlled
threshold. When the amplitude of an input exceeds the threshold, a +10
volt gate is produced at the output. When the signal's amplitude falls
below the threshold, the gate falls to 0 volts. A trigger output is also
provided from the circuit and the trigger coincides with the rising edge
of the threshold detector's gate output.
The inverter is identical to other Aries Music inverters and is included
in this module as a convenience.
