ARIES AR-315 BALANCED MODULATOR MODULE

The Aries AR-315 is a balanced modulator which is, in fact, an up-dated version of the ring modulator which was used extensively in earlier electronic music. There are 2 inputs to the modulator, X and Y, and each input has an associated input attenuator. The jacks labeled "mod. 1 and 2" are 2 identical outputs from the modulator. The modulator is a 4-quadrant voltage multiplier and it muliplies the signal at input X times the signal at input Y. If both these signals are in the audio range, the output is a complex waveform whose frequency components are the sums and differences of the 2 input signals and their harmonics.
If one of the inputs to the module is a low-frequency signal, the balanced modulator functions similarly to the VCA and can be used as a VCA.
The AR-315 includes 2 floating attenuators. Each attenuator can be used independently of the rest of the module whenever an extra attenuator is needed in a patch. In addition, each attenuator can be outfitted with a pedal that provdes a foot-operated attenuator for that input. Pedals are extremely useful controllers and can effectively complement almost every patch. The AR-315 can be used with up to 2 foot pedals.
